How Often Should You Actually Get a Haircut?
3 min read
The generic advice you'll find everywhere says "every 4 to 6 weeks," and for a lot of people that's roughly right — but it's a rule of thumb, not a law. Your actual interval depends on the cut itself.
If you're wearing a fade, especially a mid or high fade, the fade line grows out first — usually within 2 to 3 weeks it starts looking soft instead of sharp. If keeping a crisp fade matters to you, that's your real interval, even if the rest of the cut could go longer.
If you're wearing something longer on top with a low fade or no fade at all, you've got more room — 5 to 8 weeks is common before it starts looking unintentional rather than styled.
Beards are their own clock. A beard trim every 2 to 4 weeks keeps the line clean without cutting off all the growth you're presumably trying to keep.
The honest test: look in the mirror. If you're reaching for product to fix something your last haircut used to do on its own, you're overdue. If that's happening consistently around the same number of weeks, that's your real interval — book it on repeat and stop thinking about it.
