What to Actually Say When You Don't Know What You Want

3 min read

"Just make it look good" is technically true but tells your barber nothing. You don't need to know the names of fades or the right way to describe layers — you just need to answer three questions honestly.

What's annoying you right now? Too much weight on top, sides feel bulky, neckline looks messy after two weeks — whatever it is, that's the actual problem to solve, and it's more useful than any style name.

How much time are you willing to spend on it each morning? Zero minutes and a comb, or you're fine with product and a blow dryer? This alone rules out half the options and points straight at the rest.

What's the shortest you'd be comfortable with if it goes a little shorter than expected? This sets the floor so your barber knows how much room there is to actually fix what's bothering you instead of playing it safe.

Answer those three honestly and the rest is the barber's job. That's the whole idea behind the "Do Whatever You Want" package on the menu — some days the best haircut is the one where you stop trying to art-direct it.
